EDSA Rehabilitation to Begin December 24
The long-awaited rehabilitation of Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) will officially begin on Christmas eve says Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon.
Dizon said the project will be carried out in two phases, with the first phase covering the stretch from Roxas Boulevard in Pasay City to Orense Street in Makati City. Rehabilitation of the remaining portions of EDSA will follow.
Unlike earlier plans, the secretary clarified that EDSA will not be fully closed during the rehabilitation. Instead, DPWH will implement selective reblocking, focusing only on areas where repairs are needed.
The initial round of reblocking and asphalt overlay will run 24/7 until 4 a.m. on January 5, 2026. After that, road works will be limited to weeknights from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. to minimize traffic disruption.
Dizon also announced that the rehab timeline has been revised. From the original two-year plan, the new schedule has been cut to eight months or four months per phase.
The updated approach also brought major cost savings by P11 billion.
Dizon assured motorists that the government is prioritizing traffic management during construction, according to President Bongbong Marcos’ directive to keep disruptions to a minimum.
