House Inaugurates Legislative Museum to Preserve PH Lawmaking Heritage
The House of Representatives officially opened its newest cultural and historical landmark on February 23, 2026: The Legislative Museum of the House of Representatives. This marks a significant step in preserving the country’s lawmaking heritage.
The inauguration was led by House Speaker Faustino Dy III, Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc. Chairperson Mary Ann Dy, Davao Oriental 1st District Representative Maria Carmen Zamora, House Secretary General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil, and National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario.
Located on the third floor of the Legislative Library, Archives and Museum Building, the museum was established to safeguard historical records and preserve the institutional memory of Philippine lawmaking. It also aims to provide educational and cultural programs for the public.
The museum features eight galleries that chronicle the legislative journey of the Filipino people, the lawmaking process, and a timeline of all House Speakers and their leadership. Among its notable artifacts is a Constitution donated by former Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, alongside original historical documents from 1973 and 1986.
Designed with modern audiences in mind, the museum incorporates interactive displays explaining the legislative process — making it engaging for students, millennials, and first-time learners.
Despite the challenges of archival work and incomplete historical collections, curators continue to expand the repository to fully capture the evolution of Philippine legislation.
The museum is open to the public free of charge, and will eventually have an online version to make its resources accessible nationwide.
